Café au lait

A café au lait is traditionally the french way of preparing ‘coffee with milk’ both at home and in Cafés in Europe. Meaning simply “coffee with milk“.

In the US, ‘café au lait’ is defined as a coffee beverage consisting strong or bold coffee (sometimes espresso) mixed with scalded milk in approximately a 1:1 ratio.

Servings:  3-4

  1. Brew coffee. Heat milk, almost to a boil.
  2. Pour coffee and hot milk, preferably simultaneously, into large cups or mugs.
  3. Sweeten to taste. If you like the frothy finish that traditional steam infusers give to cafe au lait, whirl the hot milk in a blender (or use a whisk or hand mixer) before filling cups
